Gornji Grad–Medveščak translates as "Upper Town", referring to its historical location on city's hillside, being above Donji Grad ("Lower Town"). The district is located in the central part of the city and, according to the 2011 census, it has 30,962 inhabitants spread over 10.19 km2 (3.93 sq mi)
Gornji Grad is the most historical part of Zagreb. Known to house several historic sites and tourist attractions, the Upper Town forms the backbone to the beautiful city of Zagreb. The area is home to the city's Cathedral, St. Mark's Church and Croatian Parliament.
